Baskerville MT Pro Font Poster Project

Font poster for Baskerville MT Pro font.
I had been given the assignment to create a font poster for a font of my choosing from the given Student Font pack from my institution. The project had a specific audience, Graphic Designers. I had given dimensions as well as I was to use a minimum of three colors. I also gave a brief history of the font, the name of the designer, and an example of all weights available. With all things in design, I needed to also make sure I used the elements of design to create my poster. This is the process of this assignment.
First I needed to find out more about the font, who designed it, the history of it and what it has been historically been used for. The font was designed in the 1750s by John Baskerville and then modernized by Bruce Rogers in the 1924. When I saw how beautiful the font was and that is was used in books I thought about my favorite author of the 1800s, Jane Austen and wondered if she would have chosen this elegant and tasteful font. So, I based my poster design around Jane Austen and that era. Here are some of my initial sketches.
Concept Sketches.
The next step is to make the best ideas into digital sketches. I used Adobe Illustrator to do this part and designed it in grayscale to have a better idea of how I wanted my finished product to look. I also had made my concept sketches with grayscale in mind so it only felt natural to carry this on to the next step. From here I was able to narrow down my choices to the next part, color variation.
Digital Sketches.
Exploring color variations is one of my favorite part about design. I just love experimenting with the different colors. I used Adobe color to explore swatches by searching Jane Austen and her books. I wanted to stay true to the colors of the history of the font.
Color Variation and exploration.
Final Poster.
For the final step I was present my poster in a mock-up. I had a few that I made because I enjoy this part so much. Here are a few examples of what I came up with.
Poster mock-ups.
I am please with my final result and I wanted to keep the design simple to highlight the beauty of this font.
