This is my two cents on the topic of painterly 3D. After much experimentation to find a style that resonates with me, I’ve made some discoveries that I’m eager to share in Threads, detailing my approach and contributions to this artistic field. This is the case when you start with such simple thing as an apple and come to a result that you absolutely love.
Now let’s look at what makes up an artistic 2D view in a 3D render:
1) Painterly normal map (Voronoi texture)
2) Pencil-like stroke (grease pencil in Blender)
3) painterly textures (AI generated images projected on the objects)
In this project I used the Stylar generator for texture generation. I started experimenting with a simple apple. Having generated image, I used it to project it onto the texture in Blender and corrected it in places using a stencil brush. I've also tried models from the Megascan collection and added a jar and a stool. Here's how generated images looks like:
