Jazz.Rock.Beat.
This collection was a study in surface design: hand dyeing, felting, needle felting and applique. Inspired by the methods of artist Helen Frankenthaller, her characteristic technique of pouring paint onto her canvas inspired the method of pouring dyes onto organic raw wool fabric, then washed and dried to create abstract prints on felted wool material. The outerwear was then constructed, and shapes of the leftover felt were then cut out and needlefelted to the surface to add even more depth to this rich material. The inspiration for this collection was the beat generation, jazz music and rugged rock and roll, in deep indigo and black.
