Studio M02 - Re:creating a Chimney - The Art of Revival - Semester 08
High Vaulted Gardens
This project is exploring topic of bio engineering and formation of a building that can be used as a seed bank in Belgrade, Serbia. Building shows its uniqueness in vertical lining that is revolved around the core consisting of elevators that are designed for reaching the deepest points of the building, spaces where the seeds are stored. The main function is the preservation of endangered plant species and regeneration of their seeds, as well as returning to the natural environment. The main function are laboratories and research points, while the secondary function is the education of the visitors and a visit to the garden. The building is located in the Viline Vode neighborhood of Belgrade with direct access from Despot Stefan Boulevard, right next to the Pancevo bridge. Nearby there is also the Botanical Garden "Jevremovac" in the west, while the river Danube is in the north. The building contains an underground part located at about -100m, while in response to that reaches a height of about 105m above the surface of the earth. Useful interior space is reflected in 6927.49m2, most of which is intended for seed storage, plants and research work in laboratories, while only 1702.34m2 is intended for visitors.
