Dysko is a font created during my work at the elementary school where I taught kids from a socially unstable environment. My students, coming from toxic stress, had several problems with reading and writing. As a type designer, I started experimenting with the typefaces I used for my worksheets and other study materials. Then, I ended up creating my own font for them - Dysko.

What is different about Dysko?
I looked at several studies and theories about the readability of fonts for people with various reading and writing disabilities. A lot of my students were diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia or had lower IQs.
The most important thing was the shape differentiation between letters. Dyslectic people often mistake b for d, a for e or p for q.
I designed shapes that are not very different from most commonly used fonts but distinctive enough to make it easy to see the difference between the letters.
I used thicker lines at the bottom of the letters as some theories say that eyes are usually focused at the bottom part.
This font still needs to be adequately tested. I've just used it in my classroom with a few students. That's why I'm offering this font for free - to be spread across designers and teachers to use it, test it and give me feedback.
