Photography Design: Abstract Realism
Dimensions
24 x 36 inches, 8 sheets

Description
I created a series of images whose structural system relates conceptually and visually to the frozen, intricate nature of ice crystallization. This series reflects the variations of ice crystallization within their individual layouts while forming a cohesive system as a whole.

Concept
Through the process of research, brainstorming, mindmapping and sketching, I formed my concept: Ice crystallization is a captured stillness within a fluid process. The variables of each formation influence and inform its unique, complex structural outcome.

Concept Words
fractal + rigid

Methods
I photographed close to 700 images of ice crystallization. I selected images from this grouping as a basis for the structural development of this series. I manipulated them in a fractalized  interpretation of crystallization. I then selected a group of eight that contain pairs which relate formally to one another.

Color Palette
Having the images in black and white levels them to the same colorspace, helping to unify them as a series. The metallic paper connects to the frozen nature of ice while offering crisp fine details and allowing the natural beauty of the ice crystallization to show through.

Production
The eight sheets are printed on Kodak Endura Metallic paper by Adoramapix. Images are mounted on 6mm black komatex with a float bracket by IOLabs.

Display
Four pieces from this series were selected to grace the walls of Sprout Gallery for Providence's Gallery Night for November 2016.
