My mother tongue is Kannada and Telugu. I chose to use Kannada as my mother tongue for the monogram. My full name is SINDHU SARMA A and my initials are SSA. Since I have two S’s in my initials I took only one S. My initials in English are S, A and in Kannada ಸ/ಸಿ, ಅ. The initial for SINDHU in English is S and in Kannada is ಸಿ. I felt something interesting could be made using the ‘9’ shaped form in the syllable ‘ಸಿ’. This syllable felt more like my name. The font used for my monogram is Noto Sans.
The letters are placed such a way that the oval part of the letter ಅ comes over the inverted S shape to form the letter ಸಿ. I reduced the font size of the letter S and placed it inside the oval part of the letter ಅ to make it look like ಸಿ. The letter ಸಿ continues into the letter A passing through the letter ಅ. I used small gaps in between to differentiate each letter and make it easily readable.
After testing several colour combinations, I finally settled on Eastern Blue and Cinnabar Orange which complemented the monogram perfectly.
Eastern Blue is a colour between blue and green. It combines the calming properties of blue with the renewal qualities of green. Blue-green brings in a sense of tranquillity and indicates harmony and prosperity as well. The blue tint gives off trustworthiness, sincerity, confidence and wisdom. Cinnabar is a colour ranging from cinnamon to scarlet.
Cinnabar has the heat of red, the vibrancy of orange, and the earthiness of brown. The red fills in passion, energy and strength. Orange brings in life with enthusiasm, joy and creativity. It is optimistic, positive and friendly. Like the earth, brown gives a sense of stability, reliability and comfort. It inspires me to appreciate the simple things in life.
As a designer and a person, I want to develop all these qualities. I feel these qualities will help me thrive in any situation, face new challenges and never give up. These qualities will help me develop overall as a person and a designer.
