In many ancient cultures, the Ibis and Egret (Heron) were divine symbols. Ibis was the symbol of wisdom and knowledge and was represented by the Egyptian god Toth who has the head of an Ibis. Ibis was connected to lunar functions - cycles of time, measure and movement.

The Egyptians regarded Heron or Egret as the creator of light and a symbol of prosperity. The Chinese saw in it the symbol of patience, strength, purity and long life. In African cultures, the Heron was though to communicate with the gods.
