Prague 5 Pollinator Proposal

Prague 5 Pollinator Proposal
The objective of this project was to
-Propose alternative development models Prague 5 for underutilized sites

I chose to
-identify species of concern within Prague 5's urban matrix
-identify the resources necessary for these species survival and flourishing
-propose a species sensitive housing model and greenspace management practices
The focal species chosen were primarily native solitary bees and one butterfly, the Scarce Swallowtail
The primary reproductive site for each species was then examined through searching scientific literature. Generally speaking, the bombus species require low levels of disturbance on the ground floor and below the ground in order for their nesting sites to be preserved.
Foraging Needs of Each Species
While there is some literature regarding individual foraging preferences of these species, much of the literature is in reference to preferred plant genre for nectar instead of at the species level.

To increase the utility of potential prescriptions, I downloaded citizen science observations from iNaturalist of the target pollinator species and all plant species within Prague. I then conducted a spatial analysis to determine frequency of observations of the pollinators near each flora species.

Tobler's First Law of Geography:

"Everything is related to everything else. But near things are more related than distant things."
Highlighted Genre Preferences of Each Group resulting from spatial and statistical analysis.
The preferred genre were then examined at a species level to determine potential plant preferences.
Finally, our plant selection was organized according to the habitats they normally occur in.
Sample Greenroof
One nice discovery in this process was that many of our preferred plant species are dry grassland species and would be suitable for low maintenance green-roof vegetation.
