'Marvellous Mortals' interactive experience.

'Marvellous Mortals' the 18th century surgery experience and game.

This project is an experiential design project, based in the Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garret in London. It is an experience aimed at children of school age which they can take part in to learn more about 18th century surgery. The game at the end is inspired by Horrible History's, making history and gore fun!

Part 1:
This was the first part of the experience. The child enters the museum and is greeted by 'Mrs Grieves' the teaching skeleton and enters their details on the screen to print their quest sheet which gives them the instructions on where to pick up items to take into the game and where to pick up their 'doctors' badge which they will scan when they find an item. The quest sheet guides them around the experience, along with the 'bloody' foot prints, to the surgery game in the Operating Theatre (the second part of this experience).
                            Part 1:
Part 2:
The child collects the items, scanning their 'doctors' badge which has been given to them at the Apothecary area by an member of staff dressed as a doctor, who will accompany them for the rest of the experience, explain things, answer their questions and help them with completing the rest of the 'quest'. They end up in the Operating Theatre collecting the last couple of items and are met by another screen and begin the '18th century style' surgery game.
They are asked to 'equip' items from their inventory which they collected around the museum but find that some haven't loaded on as they weren't used in 18th century surgery. They then experiment placing items in the 'action' box to complete the surgery. If they are too slow on an action, run out of time, or place the wrong item in the action box they start the surgery again.

They're all rewarded with an upgraded doctors badge at the end to take away from the experience and the chance to see their score on the screen on the way out and on the The Old Operating Theatre website, where they can see the scores of everyone who take part in the experience that half term!
