Hosta is a design-study project, a conceptual exploration into the sci-fi aesthetics of a movie, that explores the idea of swarm intelligence observed in honey bees. Utilizing neural networks, all visual and textual content in this project is generated in order to create a bold visual identity for the movie that never exist.
The core visual idea was found in the aesthetics of scientific publications and field notes. The project discovers a distinctive and expressive style within a deliberately raw and minimally designed framework, intentionally embracing a 'ugly by design' ethos. Through this effort, the goal is to explore the visuals of scientific papers and create a fresh and innovative aesthetic from seemingly mundane printed documents. By leveraging a stark and minimalist approach, the project endeavors to amplify the impact of text and illustrations, creating a visually stimulating experience that redefines contemporary typography while bridging scientific inquiry and creative innovation.
