What's Your Story? (Experimental Animation Short Film)

“In the end don’t we all just want to be seen?”

STORYLINE

In the midst of overwhelming emotions, a sense of fatigue and anger pushes the individual to the brink of giving up, creating a destructive energy that seems poised to consume everything within and around them. However, this stark reality stands in stark contrast to the beauty of their childhood years. Married at 21, the weight of family responsibility incrementally burdens their shoulders, fueling a desire to prove themselves as adults. The pursuit of pleasure and validation gradually transforms genuine passions into obligatory tasks, eroding the purity of their emotions and turning their once heartfelt endeavors into a mechanical routine. The narrative reflects on the universal human tendency to seek validation, acknowledging the act of storytelling as a performance, where the individual lays bare their life for scrutiny and approval from others.

STORYBOARDS
We chose an interview format to tell the story, focusing on visualizing the storyteller's initial calmness. As the tale unfolds, the person recalls and vividly visualizes significant life moments, creating a captivating journey for the audience. The background score is key, beginning with a calm yet tense melody. It adeptly evolves with the storyteller's emotions, reaching a peak as the storyteller gets hyped. The story wraps up with a tense open ending, making a lasting impression on the audience.
A 3D modelled foot was animated, creating an exploded view. The application of toon shader gave a 2D effect, enhancing the scene's visual impact and stylized appearance.
The foot of ballerina was animated on paper and then cut and painted with watercolours. It was shot on a green screen which then removed by keying. the a background was animated to compliment the watercolour effect on paper in after effects.
An animated camera circled a 3D-modeled foot, textured for 2D appeal. After rendering, a 2D-animated tongue, with a liquified color layer, overlaid, creating a psychedelic, visually mesmerizing effect.
We took a shot of walking on green screen and keyed it. We added this element in the scene through pixelation, and hand-drew the 'mehendi' on each frame. An animated kalash was smoothly integrated into the scene. Finally, we added a coordinated camera movement and animated background for an elegant scene denoting marriage.
