Poster Project
This poster project in my Design Thinking class was an extensive assignment, taking over the course of a few weeks. For this student project, we were assigned to visit any location outside of our college campus, and undergo the poster making process for this said location. And for my location, I chose Luana's Coffee and Beer, a coffee shop located in Phoenix, not far from the campus. They have a very unique interior design, which was able to spark a lot of ideas for this design process.
Mind Map
The beginning portion of this assignment was to create a mind map of 50 nodes or more, this mind map would consist of anything that comes to mind when thinking our designated location.
Sketches
The next part of this process was to record any overheard conversations we hear when visiting the location we were using for the poster. While at the location, we were prompted to create 36 or more sketches of whatever we see in that area. Using a viewfinder made from a bristol board, I created my sketches of whatever was in the surrounding area.
Thumbnails
Around the halfway point of this assignment is where us students were assigned to create 36-48 thumbnail sketches for a poster design, as well as number and annotate each one we came up with. As presented, I provided each concept with a description of what is showcased, coming up with numerous designs, there were very few that had to be selected for rough drafts.
Rough Drafts
After finishing all the thumbnails, we were advised to select three to five of them to bring to the rough drafts stage. As a rough draft, each would have further detail in each concept, along with written out text and title of the location. Each description contains the reasoning for certain elements in each draft, as well as the font we would use for the text in the final product.
Final Poster
The final poster was assigned to be drawn on a poster board, and in proportion to the rough drafts. As shown, I chose to go with my fourth rough draft for my final designs, with a few adjustments. I decided to change the placement of the text, and I added coffee mugs in the top right corner to make it feel less empty. This design is meant to appear as a lamp , with an upside down cup of iced coffee being the shade for the lamp, as a clever way to showcase the design. Along with a leaves and vine design being showcased throughout the whole poster, being integrated into the design of the lamp, as well as the creamer designs inside the coffee mugs. Overall, this was my final design, a lamp with blackout and blending, along with crosshatching for shading.
