OVERALL GOALS – to raise awareness of the ‘tipping point’ of Littlehampton seaside town; how it sits between degeneration and regeneration. A contradictory mix of a Thomas Heatherwick-designed cafe, brightly painted beach huts; yet dishevelled, with empty shops. 

AUDIENCE / PURPOSE – to demonstrate this through a visual narrative, which could be shown in a magazine for fellow photographers; potentially to show in an article about a particular side to Britain. There are many DSS people housed there instead of London. This is an interesting mix with seaside visitors (not unfortunately captured this week, due to time of the week). 

THE IMAGERY – candid, documentary-style photography; reflecting this contradiction between the degradation (and the past) as a contrast between black and white and colour. 

PEOPLE – I wanted to reflect some of the community there; and have included some extra shots from when I first submitted the 6. 

It was a Sunday when I shot these High Street shots; but you can see the jewellers takes pride in its shop; whereas the Poundland one! Hard to believe it's a functioning shop with so much of its signage lost. 

Thomas Heatherwick's iconic East Beach Cafe. But I know some locals call it 'The Turd'! I love the black and white version of this - takes away from the 'reality' of the surface of the structure. But then goes against my SOI completely! 

This was a really friendly chap I asked to take a photo of; I have a positive portrait of him too. He's an artist living in Littlehampton. 

Smudgers may just be closed for the season; but on the right is a building, which is finally - after many years - being renovated. I'm not sure to what purpose, though.
