Collage Triptych

A collage triptych I did as part of class at Flagler College. Heavily inspired by the combination of one of my favorite visual artists with one of my favorite musical artists. The musician is Anderson .Paak and the designer is Dewey Saunders. All four of .Paak's solo albums are named after cities in California, specifically the greater Los Angeles area where he grew up. The album covers for his albums "Venice" and "Malibu" were designed by Dewey Saunders. Saunders uses a collage style for his artwork, and that style was the main inspiration for the artwork I did. The concept of location based art that Anderson .Paak uses for his albums was also a big inspiration in the creation of the collage. Each section represents a different place in my life. The left-most panel is based on a camp I worked at for a few summers; which is one of my favorite places in the entire world, and is home to some of the best memories I've ever made. The middle section is based off of my hometown Simsbury, Connecticut. I lived there for the first 19 years of my life. The right-most section is based on the town of Orvieto, Italy. I did a five week study abroad there in the summer of 2021 and I consider Orvieto to be my favorite place in the entire world. The surrounding predella is based on the town of Saint Augustine, which is where Flagler College is; and where I was when I made this piece. The method of creating this art piece was by cutting up various images and then gluing pieces of those images together in a specific way that resembled each location; but in a more abstract way. Some images were found and some were printed images of specific scenes from each location. Overall this piece means a lot to me and is likely my favorite thing I've ever created.
