The Free Press Embassy
A Machine for Free Press (Year 5)
The Free Press Embassy project was inspired by the year long debates over what constitutes free press and the desire for freedom of information, fuelled by the ongoing public exposure of Wikileaks. The Free Press Embassy became a mechanism to provoke those debates; a machine that affords the public the opportunity to collaborate and stage high and low tech interventions throughout the city that would seep into the public consciousness through media culture and thereafter be almost impossible to erase completely. The central communications tower cuts into the terrain beneath the site exposing the various networks of underground tunnels that proliferate London's subterranean world, allowing people to anonymously arrive and depart the Embassy by subverting the existing infrastructure. The images below are excerpts from this project.
