[VISC102] Project 4 - Social Cause Poster
This poster was a recreation of one of my oldest graphic design works, back when I was studying graphic design on my own. I think the new poster is a massive improvement upon the old one, and it shows how much I've grown as a designer. What do you think? Would you want to see this poster in your child's school?

Step 1
I started by positioning the upside-down wine glass on the canvas. I had separated the wine glass from it's background in a separate Photoshop file, as well as colorizing the water within the glass to make it look like wine. I had to utilize all the masking and selecting skills I've been learning this semester to make sure the glass was properly separated and the wine looked natural.
Step 2
I then added the syringe and the crack in the glass, as well as the big DON'T, using a strong font and large lettering. I used a huge/saturation layer to match the liquid inside the syringe with the wine color, making it appear as if the syringe was punching through the glass and collecting wine from it. I also used a brightness/contrast layer to make the crack in the glass a bit more prominent.
Step 3
Here I added the pills pouring out of the glass as well as creating a pattern in the background at low opacity with them. I used one pill asset and colorized it to create a blue and white/red pill. It was also at this point that I added the clipped image of someone suffering an overdose behind the DON'T lettering, which created a strong sense of intentional imagery. I used a brightness/contrast layer on the overdose image to darken it up a bit and make it match the tone of the rest of the design.
Step 4
Here I added the text, creating some context for the DON'T as well as for why the wine glass was upside down by adding the line, "Drugs will turn your life upside down. Just...[DON'T]". I also included some statistics and a call to action at the very bottom.
