Poster for WBRU Summer Concert

Poster for WBRU Summer Concert
24 x 36 inches
Printed on cotton poplin
Helvetica Neue

In this project from a Poster Studio class, we were to create a poster for a current event in Providence. Through the process of brainstorming, mindmapping and sketching, I arrived at the concept of vibrate for this project which reflects the aspect of sound and movement generated at a music concert.

It was encouraged to explore various techniques of image creation to achieve an effective design that reflected this concept. After many different techniques, including photos of instruments and scanned images of vibrating type, I arrived at the technique of cutting out tiles of letterforms, shaking them around on paper, and photographing individual letterforms at an angle.

The typeface on these tiles is set in Helvetica Neue Condensed. This typeface and technique reflects the characteristics of marquee lettering, and demonstrates the concept of vibrate and the movement of music. The poster is printed on cotton poplin to add a texture to the poster in reflection of the attributes of the radio station.
