This design represent Harut a Sila Character inspired by Arabic folklore, in this project I was aiming for a mysterious and intriguing persona capable of shapeshifting, using magic, and manipulation. Drawing from the rich culture and folklore of the Arabic world, I researched the characteristics of the Sila, a type of jinn or ghoul known for its malice and treachery. Typically, Silas shapeshift into human form, to deceive travelers in the desert. They are described as slim, witty, and powerful.
My version of Sila is a young, handsome, and charismatic male with dark skin, black hair, brown eyes. He wears blue uniform, brown traditional Babouche, a yellow cape, and a turban. Confident, clever, and adventurous, Harut is also selfish, greedy, and ruthless. His penchant for travel and exploration is coupled with a desire to cause trouble and chaos.
To bring this character to life visually, I started with a loose sketch using simple geometric forms to define body proportions and pose. A confident and relaxed stance, with one hand creating some light and the other holding a special dagger, conveyed a sense of mystery and dynamism. I added mystic expression to the face, to enhance the enigmatic nature.
Refining the sketch involved adding more details and shading, particularly to clothing and accessories, aiming for a contrast between the loose, flowing fabrics and the tight, muscular body. Folds and wrinkles were incorporated to give the clothing a realistic and natural look.
In the final stage, I colored Harut using warm and vibrant tones. Blue for the uniform, brown for the Babouche and dagger handle, and yellow for the cape, white for the turban created a visually striking and culturally reflective character. Highlights and shadows were added to provide depth and volume, completing the illustration of this captivating Sila character.
I hope you like it and find it inspiring. I would appreciate your feedback and comments. Thank you for viewing my project.
