RISD CE Spring Lecture Poster Series

RISD CE Spring Lecture Poster Series
13 x 19 inch posters, series of 5
Typeface: Gill Sans

This project comes from a Thinking Visually course in which we were asked to explore the different ways to create a series of posters. These posters demonstrate a series by the addition of color as well as a change in layout. The increasing complexity is balanced, though, with the consistent type treatment of the headline text as well as the grayscale bird and egg images.

The concept of this piece is beginning. Because the lecture series takes place in the Spring, it is a time of new birth and exploration of new possibilities. The colors and images demonstrate the excitement of new life and a fresh start in a once bleak, gray world.

The bird images are hand-drawn using graphite, and the eggs were photographed. The typeface used in this piece is Gill Sans. The lowercase ‘g’ of Gills Sans has a form that is reminiscent of eggs, and it was therefore appropriate for the concept.
