Conceptual Book Cover
Project 02 - ART 235
For this assignment, we had to choose a classic book from a list that was given to us and make three book covers. One cover had to be a typography cover, one handmade, and one can be of our choice. The book I chose to do is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
Designer’s Choice
For this book cover, I wanted to utilize Photoshop. In total, I used three photos that I got from Pixels to make one final photo. I wanted the mood for this book cover to be very dark and gloomy. In the background is Edward Rochester’s home in a foggy field. On top of the cover is the silhouette of Jane.
Handmade
For the handmade cover, I wanted to show depth and secrecy. Again, I referenced the fire and the secret that Edward Rochester had. I also wanted to show who Edward Rochester was keeping behind a locked door. I showed this by using a keyhole. For the handmade element, I chose to do this with oil pastel.
Typography
For this book cover, I wanted the type to symbolize the fire that happens in the book. To achieve a smoke effect on the type, I created my own brush and then applied it to the type.
