Sewing Pocket-knife

With the recent agreement between ESAD and the knife factories in Benedita, the challenge of designing a pocketknife about the west of Portugal, was launched.

Through extensive research on traditional activities in the center of the country, it was concluded that one of the important cultures/traditions to be supported would be embroidery and Portuguese sewing.
To make this reality possible, I added a variety of research, observation and analysis related to seamstress tools and actions.

After selecting the important parts in this research, it was concluded that certain objects used in the action, created several basic difficulties and pain in parts of the user’s body.
So, it was decided to design an ergonomic pocketknife with 3 functions that complement each other: cutting thread, undoing sewn stitches and as a thimble and/or decorative.
