Orfé | Collaborative Design

For Christmas, Orfé wanted to offer a series of postcards as a symbol as a way to connect with loved ones during the pandemic. I was asked to lead this project, and I wanted to do something collaborative that could involve the whole team instead of being the sole designer to work on it.

I wanted to try a sort of communal art piece, with each designer contributing their own part. The challenge was finding a fun way for each designer to be able to express themselves without compromising or clashing the other artwork.
After some troubleshooting, I decided it would be best to go with geometric patterns. I designed a template with pre-made shapes (and very simple instructions) to the other designers. It was amazing to see each designer's unique style in the patterns they made.

Below: the template sent out to designers specifying which shapes to use and how.
Once all the shapes were submitted and arranged together, the next step would be the colours. I also wanted this step to be collaborative, so I provided the file containing the shapes for all the designers to colour in and send back. I printed out 20 or so options and put them on the wall of the lunch room so that we could all vote on our favorite colour combinations. After the colours were chosen, the only thing remaining was having the cards printed locally, putting them into envelopes and mailing them out.

Below: some of the colour combinations submitted by the designers.
Although the project involved participation from the whole team, it was completed a week ahead of schedule– and everyone was excited to send the cards to their friends and families, since they all had a hand in making it. Overall: it was a really fun project.
