An unparalleled souvenir from my childhood days, the Marble Rocks, is more than just a place - it's a sentiment wrapped in warmth and excitement. Just two hours away from home, my family and I elope here for a day every weekend and that is how it has been for as long as I can remember but even so, the anticipation, the infantile eagerness and enthusiasm I feel within me for those two long hours never runs out until I see them, the soaring colossal wave of joy, both figuratively and literally, the Marble Rocks. The breathtaking Marble Rocks along the river Narmada, in Jabalpur’s Bhedaghat district offer an amazing delight to the senses by creating a serene and enthralling scenic beauty. The best part of these rocks is the illusions that they give rise to different colours and shapes as one sails along the river. The texture and colour of the marble cliffs change from dazzling white to pale yellow and from pinkish hue to different shades of green. The rocks are within a gorge which was once so narrow that monkeys could jump across from one side to another. This narrow portion is locally known as the “बंदर कूदनी”.

The Marble Rocks is and always will be the most fiercely pristine and exquisitely gorge I have ever come across. My idea of a perfect date with myself emcompasses nothing but just me sitting on the boat while the wind touches my face, staring at the infinite vastness and talking about everything under the sun to the rocks.

"बंदर कूदनी" is a weave design project, inspired by Jabalpur's Marble Rocks in Bhedaghat. Using stripes and checks, it captures the magic of this place. These rocks hold cherished childhood memories, evoking warmth and excitement.The Marble Rocks are known for their ever-changing colors and shapes as you sail along the river. From dazzling white to soft yellow and pinkish hues to shades of green, they provide a vivid color palette for this project. I conceived and developed this project while reflecting on my college years, when I was far from home, and the recollections of the Marble Rocks provided solace and creativity.
