Board Game Design: 1969

1969 is a game that centers on the narrative of a butch lesbian in the 1960's. It was inspired by transgender activist's Leslie Feinberg's novel Stone Butch Blues. The prototype was showcased at the Longwood Gallery's Toys and Games with a Twist Exhibition in New York.

The game set.
1969 makes use of a paperdoll mechanic, in which the player makes strategic decisions on how to dress Jess based on who she encounters in the game. The player must strike a balance between keeping Jess safe from homophobic hostility which was common in the era, and between allowing her to express herself in a way that she would prefer.
