Stillness
Artist Statement: This photography project revolves around the theme of "stillness." I decided to use trees and the shadows they cast, and the shadows cast upon them, as my concepts to create an atmosphere of dull tranquility. I took pictures of singular trees in areas filled with foliage to focus on how shadows intermingle with different trees. As the day continues, the lighting changes and the shadows darken the trees and the grass around them in new ways. The tree never changes and remains unrelenting. Trees, one of the most stubborn things in nature, only have their majestic height and years of growth ironically illuminated with the shadows cast upon them. They remain still and peaceful.
