The Shape of Sound:
Music Through Motion
An Interactive Music Installation
The Shape of Sound is a tactile, accelerometer-based installation that allows the user to create music by picking up and moving colored 3D shapes. The flexibility of the soundscape means that every user will have a unique experience.
The motions of the shapes.
Inside each shape is a PCB that has an ESP32 microcontroller and accelerometer module.
3D models of the enclosures.
Sonic Pi, a code-based music creation software, takes the Bluetooth input from the shapes and modifies the music in real-time, making a dynamic soundscape.
Videos of user testing.
Surveys showed that 95% of users felt they made a meaningful impact on the music.
