Multi-Functional Product (pocket size comb & mirror)
Problem analysis: Hair is the first thing most people will notice about you regardless of your gender. Brushing/fixing of hair is a very basic, day to day practice and caters to all genders and age. For this we need a comb. Fixing yourself when you’re on the go is what we all do many times a day and for that you need a mirror.
Concept: We don’t find mirrors or combs everywhere nor can we carry the normal sized mirror/brush with us all the time. Even if we do find small mirrors or combs we will have to keep them individually which will occupy more space and won’t be very handy/travel friendly.
Synthesis: My product is a “flip-open” comb and mirror. In my product the mirror bends over a comb and can be flipped open to use either of the two.
Its main purpose is to be pocket size so that it can be kept anywhere from your pocket to your little bag pack.
Description, medium used, price: My products dimensions are approximately 8 by 3 inches with a width of 6-8mm. The mirror is 4 inches long and the comb is the same length as well.
The mirror is attached to the comb with a hinge in between. A small thin metal piece goes inside the hinge to allow movement while opening and closing.
The shape of the mirror is curved inward from the center in such a way that it’s comfortable to hold it with grip (regardless of the small size) and fits the basic structure of the human hand.
I have used acrylic sheet in 2 colors; white and silver(mirror like). I have user laser cut method and then drilled a hole inside the hinge for the metal piece to pass through and allow movement.
Plastic or wood can also be used.
