Fracti: The Mosaic Art Capsule

Art serves as a formless source of media, it talks people through interaction and movement being dynamic within itself as it forms a different experience, memory and a journey to each individual. And as all forms of art may bind to create a perspective, the idea was to reboot art that has been forgotten in Alexandria, where the momentum of art began on a global scale given the multiplicity of ceremonies and foreign artists who have made it a great school of art, which consequently reproduced the pioneers of contemporary Egyptian art. Mosaic glass art is inseparably associated with the Alexandrian glass industry after the Hellenistic period, like in the case of many other categories of luxury glass credited with being an Alexandrian specialty. Aiming to improve our knowledge of Egypt’s mosaics and to introduce these sometimes simple, sometimes luxury witnesses of a craftsmanship that was capable of producing masterpieces and which played an important role in the life of the ancient upper classes; the proposal brings art, mosaic and architecture together in a unifying mode, bringing together artists who specialize in contemporary art and newcomers who want to learn more about art, lovers of culture and the environment who wish to see what the future could look like through art.
It will provide a meeting place for local mosaic manufacturers to share their stories, learn more about the history of mosaics, see new innovations in the process and meet other artists who may be able to collaborate together. This place will also be used as an educational institute for local artists who want to study these incredible arts and integrate them into their own work. It acts as an art "capsule" giving us an opportunity to highlight the rich creative traditions in Alexandria and re-establish its role as a center of fusing different art cultures creativity and the artistic capital of Egypt where people can come together from all walks of life to share ideas and experiences.
Formerly the museum was based on a belief in values, whereas today’s museum helps in the search for values. It therefore stands open and inviting to the outside world, and tries to avoid giving the visitor the impression of crossing a threshold.
The Mosaics of Alexandria provides the first overview of the mosaics and pavements of Egypt that were created between the end of the fourth century BC and the sixth century AD. It presents a selection of some seventy mosaics and pavements from Alexandria and Greco-Roman Egypt. Generally little known and more often than not unpublished, these works are illustrated here in full color, some for the first time. The aim is to better understand the artistic and artisanal production of a type of decoration that played an important role within the living environment of the ancients.
The project breaks away from the traditional art museums while serving as a fully captivating hub for arts and culture. it intends to become a place that continuously grows and develops, a station of inspiration and participation
Visioned as a place for people, the design was formulated with a focus on the diversity of experiences needed to create a world class central art hub: one that responds to its context, climate and community, meets the needs of people on a daily basis, as well as for visitors, gatherings and celebration.
