WK5: Printed Poster

Thumbnails
Process: I used a 0.4 black fine liner pen and quickly sketched out new thumbnails for a poster.

Reflection:
Positive - I made a lot of different potential poster ideas.
Improvement - Some of them are very preliminary and difficult to understand the message.

T-Shirt Poster Sketch
Process: I used a black watercolour pencil to draw out a frame and sketch my design and a green watercolour pencil for colour details.

Reflection:
Positive - I like the large call-to-action text and the layout.
Improvement - The additional text could be improved

Lino Print T-Shirt
Process: I drew out my design on paper, traced the drawing on baking paper and used this to transfer the design onto a silk-cut lino block. I then used wood carving tools to carve out the design. Once I did that I used a palette knife to place black block ink onto a tray and rolled ink onto a rubber roller. I then applied the ink to my carved-out lino block, placed a piece of paper on top and used a Japanese bamboo baren to press the paper. I peeled off the paper and let it dry

Reflection:
Positive - The shape is solid as there are no white spots in the middle of the design.
Improvement - There are some spots of ink around the design that I could have carved out more.

Print Experimentation
Process:
I brought my print into Adobe Photoshop by scanning it and image tracing it. I deleted the surrounding spots of ink and changed the levels and curves to make the shape more solid. I then added an adjustment layer for solid colour, made copies of the shape, and played around with different colours and blending options.

Reflection:
Positive - I like the different combinations of colours made using the blending options.
Improvement - The colours I chose may be too vivid.

Sustainable T-Shirt Poster
Process: I image-traced my print in Adobe Photoshop and deleted the surrounding spots. I made adjustment layers to change the levels, curve, and solid colour to make the red and green shirts. I used the previous explorations of the print as a background pattern and lowered the opacity. I then added text using a bold sans-serif font and added a black border.

Reflection:
Positive - I like the use of colour to quickly communicate what is good and bad.
Improvement - I think the additional text might be confusing for the audience
