Commentary Through Relief Printed Posters

Process: Quick simple thumbnail sketches of posters regarding climate change, primarily polar bears in the arctic, were done fast and loose. Very little detail was added, which helps to decide upon which can stand out without much visual help.
Reflection: Some stood out from others, primarily the melting polar bear head with the HELP above it. However, most were to basic or just not very impactful as environmental posters.
Materials: 2B pencil.

Process: The emphasis on the family aspect was the main aspect in why i chose this design, and to further develop the idea from the past week. The large text emphasises the message, and the heart shaped icebergs further emphasise the family heartbreak
Reflection: The poster has a good balance and reflects the message well, whilst also targeting the audience well.
Materials: 2B pencil

Process: Using a lino block, i traced out the design onto it with a pencil. I cut out the main details, the polar bears entirely and the text as well. Using black ink i printed the image onto a page in my book, which was too small to capture the entire print.
Reflection: The overall composition of the print in black and white works well in terms of emphasising the severity of the issue. However, this isn't the particular effect i was trying to achieve, which was a more family friendly approach. Also the text at the top didn't print very well, and the polar bears lose their cuteness in the prints. This further removes the audience from connecting with the subject.
Materials: lino block, carving tools, black printing ink, 125gsm paper.

Process: Simply changed the colour scheme of the poster using illustrator.
Reflection: By adding colour to the poster i believe it makes it more visually appealing and impactful, while remaining simplistic. The two colours contrast and compliment each other, creating harmony within the poster and adding a popping element to the overall design. This would catch the eyes of young children and adults.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator

Process: Using illustrator i added simple changes to the overall design. Primarily outlines around the top text, and filling in the text to make it easier to read. The icebergs were shaded a lighter blue, and ripples were added around them.
Reflection: Overall i believe these simple changes enhance the unity of the poster and create a more put together composition.
Materials: Adobe Illustrator.
