A rare opportunity that I have experienced. As the name suggests, this lab is a place for mechanical engineering students to understand the theory and practice of metal foundry.

A metal casting manufacturing process practicum typically involves hands-on training and practical experience in the field of metal casting. This type of practicum or laboratory course is often offered as part of a curriculum in engineering, materials science, or related fields. It aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the metal casting process, from design and pattern-making to casting and finishing.

Students learn about the various casting methods, including sand casting, investment casting, die casting, and more. They explore the advantages and disadvantages of each method and understand where each is best applied.

Pattern Making: Pattern making involves creating a replica of the final product in the form of a pattern or mold. Students may learn how to design patterns and make them using various materials such as wood, metal, or plastics.

Mold Preparation: This involves the preparation of the mold or cavity into which molten metal will be poured. Students may learn about the different types of molds used in casting and how to prepare them properly.

Melting and Pouring: Students get hands-on experience in melting the metal and pouring it into the mold. They learn about the importance of temperature control, safety precautions, and the choice of casting alloys.

Solidification and Cooling: Understanding the solidification process is crucial in casting. Students observe the cooling and solidification of the metal within the mold and its effect on the final product's properties.

Casting Defects: Identifying and understanding casting defects such as porosity, shrinkage, and cracks is a critical aspect of the practicum. Students learn how to prevent and address these defects.

Finishing and Quality Control: After casting, students may be involved in cleaning, machining, and finishing the casted parts. Quality control methods, including inspections and testing, are also covered.

Even though it's not related, my passion for photography is hard to hide. I decided to keep expressing what's in my inner mind. Here are the results of my photos of everything in the laboratory.
