Similar to the previous week, we had to ideate new poster ideas however we were required to embed more opinion towards the message of our choice. We also started working with Lino printing.

New Poster Thumbnails
Materials: HB pencil
Process: I started by drawing small icons of many bugs and insects as well as phrases that I thought would be interesting to include within the poster.
Reflection: While brainstorming I found that spiders are the most common bug that people are afraid of thus deciding to spread awareness of these natural animals and why they shouldn’t go extinct.
Sketch of Chosen Image (from thumbnails)
Materials: HB pencil
Process: with the chosen image, I decided to roughly sketch out the poster and how it would look.
Reflection: With this poster, I wanted to make it so it was straightforward and simple.
Lino Prints of Image
Materials: Ink, Lino woodcarving tools, Lino silk-cut canvas, HB pencil
Process: With the thumbnail sketches printed onto the canvas, the woodcarving tools were used to carve out the spider as well as some patterns.
Reflection: I feel like the spider came out really well, it depicts the realism of the spiders body as well as the webs formed around the legs. However due to time restrictions, the pattern was not able to be fully completed. Even with the printing outcome, i felt like more ink could have been added to come out clean and not grainy. Overall, i like the final print of this image.
Digital Explorations of Lino Prints
Materials: Photoshop (online)
Process: Experimenting with photoshop, I explored different colours I could interpret with the lino print.
Reflection: Through the digital explorations I found that the green and red images stood out to me the most and will be interpreted for the final version of the poster.
Final Version of Poster using Lino Print
Materials: Photoshop (online)
Process: With photoshop I was able to interpret the lino print with the coloured version as a shadow and add text around the print.
Reflection: From this final poster, I quite enjoyed being able to experiment with lino printing and digitally experiment with the colours and shapes in photoshop. Other elements could be interpreted to create a collaged poster, however, if I could improve this or if I had more time, I would create more lino prints of different insects and bugs to incorporate in the poster.
