Cardboard Chair_Module2

The inspiration behind the reading chair: 'Hush', is having a chair that speaks for itself.  When a user is in the chair,  people will instantly know not to bother them because it's the 'Hush' chair. This chair is one of a kind because it delievers the message "don't talk to me right now," allowing the user to enjoy and focus on their reading in the library level link of Architecture hall.
Ideation stage
Logo brainstorming.
The logo of this cardboard chair came from combining the original 'shift' and 'hush' logo to create a logo that eccos the word 'hush' by having the letters sliced in half horizonally.
Concept and chair ideas.
After narrowing the concepts down to two: a chair that was adjustable, and chair that provided privacy, the designer of Hush went with the idea of a chair that allowed privacy yet allowed the user to stay connected with the things around them.
Prototype stage
First prototype.  The main focus of this chair is privacy.  The sides of the chair are rectangles to allow the user to focus on reading and not the things around them.  The idea of using triangles to create a seat was inspired by the simplicy of it. The triangles on the sides are there to allow the user to see and not be completely blocked off from having a side view.
Second and final prototype.  Taking into consideration the constructive critcism from Nolan, Stacy, Betsy, and the class, the sides of the chair was changed due to the fact that someone could easily sneak up on the user of the chair and scar them and the triangles that allowed them to see in the first prototype were not appealing or neccessary.  The target of the chair then became something that was cozy and private.  The top of the chair changed to the back curving up to creative privacy in the sense of being sheltered.  This approach allows the user to take two steps back from reality and still be able to see what is going on around them.
Making stage
Final sketch and measurement of the chair
A big struggle faced in the process of designing this chair is getting all the measurements right. The first prototype was not to scale, therfore making it hard to determine the actual size of the chair.  The second prototype was scale 3 inches = 1 foot, but had to go through some adjustments when creating the final sketech and measurements of the chair.
After the tediuos prototyping stage, the struggles with measurement, the long hard hunt for cardboard, and 60 hours, the Hush chair was born.  Don't miss your chance to be the owner of the first Hush chair.  For sale starting at $400.
