Watercolor Study - Embracing Nostalgia and Growth, 2021
Inspiration: The catalyst for this piece stems from the profound impact of "Love Hina," my inaugural manga experience at the tender age of 13. It marked the beginning of my journey into the world of manga artistry, a journey I embarked upon alongside my friend and mentor, Jane. The nostalgia and love for this story serve as the driving force behind this watercolor study.

Techniques: Confronting the challenges of watercolors head-on, I embarked on a study of the medium, despite my initial aversion to its unpredictability. Through this process, I learned to appreciate the unique mood and texture that watercolors impart to a piece, embracing the imperfections inherent in the medium.

Meaning: This work holds a dual significance for me - while it sparked a newfound appreciation for watercolors, it also unveiled a dislike for the medium due to its inherent unpredictability. Despite the frustration it elicited, this study served as a poignant reminder of my growth and resilience, marking my first artistic endeavor after several months of lockdown.

Representation: In the broader context of my creative journey, this watercolor study represents a pivotal moment of self-discovery and growth. It underscores the importance of experimentation and exploration in defining one's creative identity, while also highlighting the invaluable role of art education in providing the tools and guidance necessary for personal and artistic development.

Materials: Crafted using watercolors and ink pen, this study embodies a blend of traditional and contemporary mediums, offering a glimpse into the multifaceted nature of artistic expression.

Dimensions: Rendered on an A3 canvas, measuring 29.7 x 42 cm, this watercolor study invites viewers to delve into the evocative world of nostalgia and creativity, offering a nuanced exploration of the artist's journey.
