visual narratives for the royal opera

The Royal Opera project, entitled "End of the World", is a multidisciplinary artistic work that brings together several teams and is divided into four acts. In this engaging piece, the goal of the multimedia component is to create a mutable space, which transforms and evolves as the acts succeed each other. With this purpose in mind, consideration was given to the inclusion of short animations that serve as an introduction, providing a preview of the moment and situation in which each act unfolds. For example, an earthquake before the first act, a fire before the second act, and a scene of apocalyptic chaos, such as a bombing, before the last act. These animations are a way to transport the viewer to the context and environment following these events, reflecting the changes occurring in the space where the narrative unfolds.
To accomplish this project, it is essential to establish a clear association between the languages of theater and multimedia, which implies integration in a multidisciplinary team. However, great challenges were faced, as it is necessary to harmoniously articulate and combine the skills and competencies of a large and diverse team. The collaboration of all members is fundamental to ensure that the piece is a cohesive, singular, and non-fragmented work. Each member of the team contributes their knowledge and talent in the creation of an aesthetic vocabulary that includes the development of illustrations, drawings, and graphics that help create a visually impactful and captivating atmosphere for the audience.
The main goal of this project is the creation of animations for the introductory tabs of each act. These animations play a crucial role in establishing the tone, atmosphere and immersion necessary to transport the viewer into the universe of the play. Each animation is a window into the world that follows, creating expectation and emotional involvement from the very first moment.
