How to add brutality to the interior,
but not overload with rough textures?
Project of a studio 25 m2 for a student
In this project for a young guy, an engineering student, it was necessary to create an original interior with a masculine character. The studio should become a place where you want to return after a busy study day, where you can relax with friends watching football or playing consoles. The customer wanted to get an interior with a masculine character, with rough shapes and textures, but at the same time so that the space does not seem cramped and oppressive.
The customer wanted the studio to have a comfortable sleeping place, a comfortable kitchen (he often cooks at home), a large TV, a bar if possible, and at the same time there was a lot of free space. And now I'll show you what we did!

The bed is a spacious sofa 2400 mm long, which is suitable both for a good rest and for gatherings with friends. It is convenient to use a small table next to it to put a phone or laptop, and during parties with friends - to put drinks and snacks. The room is finished with warm gray washable paint, decorative plaster with the effect of an old wall and panels imitating concrete slabs. Throughout the room, SPC laminate is laid, a material that is resistant to moisture and mechanical stress, therefore it is suitable for hallways and even bathrooms.
Kitchen
The kitchen has everything you need for convenient cooking: a sink, a dishwasher, a workspace, a 2-burner stove and an extractor hood. The refrigerator and microwave diversified the achromatic range of the kitchen and added a color accent to the entire room. For the backsplash, I chose concrete-look panels and extended the backsplash to the end of the wall to give the room a finished look and protect the wall from being rubbed by the sofa.
Workplace
A workplace in a student's apartment is a must. It should be functional and convenient so that everything is at hand. I chose a table with an additional retractable tabletop so that the client could lay out study notes, drawings and textbooks and immerse himself in the learning process more effectively. And the rest of the time, you can eat at the countertop, looking out the window or at the TV. By the way, the TV is mounted on a bracket so that it is possible to turn the screen, for example, towards the kitchen.
Hallway
In the hallway there is a main storage area (2000 mm long), a place for street clothes and shoes, and a mirror on the door leaf. I ditched the hooks in favor of a hanger bar so that clothes don't warp and there's more room for guests' clothes.
Bathroom
The bathroom is dominated by a sink and illuminated mirror. I chose the optimal width of the sink, and placed the faucet in the wall to save more space. Thanks to this, in the bathroom there was a place for a washing machine with a depth of 450 mm and easy access to it. As a finish material I used decorative concrete-like plaster and tiles with aged decor.
Style
When customers talk about brutal interiors, most often they are talking about brick walls, concrete, metal shelving and rough-hewn wood. All this fits into the concept of grunge style. This is a variation of the loft style. It is suitable for rooms with low ceilings and a small area, it looks more neat and relevant in the originally residential premises. The basis of the modern grunge style is created by aged, worn textures, vintage furniture.
In my project, I combined a grunge style base, simple furniture, a refrigerator and a retro-style microwave.
To dilute the severity of the interior, I added bright wall posters with motivational inscriptions.
