We shape our dwellings and afterwards, our dwellings shape us.

With memory and individuality closely tied to space, we long for permanence- structures that do not succumb to decline. Although this desire aris- es from our keen awareness of the significance of place, it also fails to acknowledge a characteristic deeply embedded in place itself: time. Like ‘time’, ‘place’ does not stand still but bends and twists and fades. To seek an escape from its tenuousness is to seek an escape from it altogether. Not only do built structures disintegrate, certain features of it unravel solely through processes of transformation.

These drawings serve as my visual inquiry into further understanding the kaleidoscopic nature of the urbanized landscape. Rather than repel the steady flow of urbanity, these drawings attempt to affirm it. Each work seeks to develop a grammar of visual sensations that explore the in-betweens of movement and stagnation, naturalness and artificiality, comfort and displacement.
