Denim Reimagined
For a unit as part of my degree we were set the task to create new garments from leftover denim scraps. I wanted to challenge myself to create something that was not visibly a derivative of its original form. Denim is hardwearing and with everchanging trends is being discarded long before being worn out.

I thought about breaking the denim down to fibre, making a yarn and knitting it. I have seen recycled denim yarn commercially available, but my trials did not produce a result that was to my satisfaction. The thin strips of denim that I cut reminded me of a weaving project that I did last year. I decided to weave a new denim textile and make that into a cute, sheath dress that captures the spirit of the slow fashion movement.
