REDESIGN OF A WAITER TRAY
Interaction design - product design

Redesign of a waiter tray to improve the userā€™s posture. With this new design, weight of tray is borne by arm and hand, not only by palm of hand. Thereby, Ā the continuous injuries on the wrist that waiters normally suffer are significantly reduced.

All mesures of tray were designed using anthropometric tables, 5th and 95th percentiles human dummies, as well as considering the capability of current trays.Ā ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹

Posture evolution

Through RULA method were identified the need of a change of the current posture, as well as, Ā the most injured parts of the arm. Later, it was proposed a new userā€™s posture using the same method.

Concept evolution

Rounded shape was replaced due to its unstability when arm is used as support. Instead of it, some elliptical and oval shapes were proposed.Ā It was also proposed Ā an intern grip instead of an external one in order to place tray horizontally on a flat surface. Thickness of tray was increased to get a lower flat surface.
