Here are 5 sketches for the competition of the sketch design of the monument to the Tula samovar, dedicated to the 245th anniversary of the beginning of factory production of samovars in Tula. The organizers of the competition: "Artel", the Ministry of Culture of the Tula region, JSC "Technodinamika", JSC "Machine-building factory "Stamp" named after B.L. Vannikov".
There has been a samovar for many centuries. He has come down to our days in his original form. This applies not only to its constructive features, but also to the design that corresponds to a specific aesthetic model. On the one hand, now we can see the samovar as it was centuries ago, use it exactly the same as it was in the old days; on the other hand, we do not observe one process necessary in any culture, namely, changes in the object over time, when the traditional attribute continues its path, but being updated, living a natural life of growth and development. Culture must be alive – this is the only way it will retain its value-forming function and continue to attract people's attention to its content.
The production of samovars in Tula tries to transform the original appearance of the samovar, but its shape remains unchanged. Since we are dealing with a monument project, we have some freedom of imagination on the subject of the external device of the samovar. Each of the proposed sketches visualizes a kind of avant-garde dream of what a samovar of the present day might look like. Interacting with such a monument, people will be able to rediscover the device they are already familiar with, perhaps it will also inspire production for some engineering experiments and attract the attention of citizens to the samovar as part of a centuries-old history, uninterrupted for a moment, living history.
On July 4, 2023, the Tula Kremlin hosted an exhibition of jury-selected sketches, including the ones submitted by us. Later, the project will be supplemented with a photo report from the exhibition.
