I stumbled upon this band playing a gig in Brooklyn (most likely at Our Wicked Lady) and took some live shots of them. Emily (aka Ash Jesus) had an incredibly huge rock voice and their songs were killer. Like your favorite elevated bar food, the presentation was low brow and greasy but the taste oozed with high brow ingredients infusing each bite with a satiating Rock 'n Roll umami flavor. Delicious!

 I sent them the live pics and offered to shoot them in my studio. Oh boy, I had no idea what a fun day it would be and later on just how much talent was in the room as they have all moved on to head up their own bands which are now main attractions in defining today's Brooklyn Rock scene.

I wanted to do hi-key and low key set-ups with them. Judging from their stylish looks and hilarious attitudes, I knew a plain white background would not cut it. So I pulled out some of my wackier background paper options and we all agreed on this electric turquoise (no idea what the actual color is called as I had found it on the street)

I used a single light with a Photek Umbrella and just ran with the almost high school like portrait session feel I was getting. It was nearly impossible to pick out favorites as they were all seriously ironic and sincerely hilarious. 

Next up was the low key set up. We went with a classic dark grey background. Pretty sure I went with a single small soft box with a fabric grid so that the grey paper would turn black but with some subtle shading. And I had a bare fill light about 10ft behind me. I also wanted to get some 3/4 length pics with instruments. There was no drum set so we went with my boombox for Johnny and Emily's vocals hit like a hammer, so there it is.

All in all one of the most fun band shoots I've done. And It's great to get to run into them while out and about in Brooklyn rocking up a storm these days. Can't wait to see how far they all go. It makes me feel like a proud Papa. lol
