Project: Band Poster
Project Overview
For this project, the goal was to create a poster for a band while only using one word from the band name or the album title. The band that I chose was Rebel Diaz and the album title is Radical Dilemma. The single word I chose to highlight for the band poster is "rebel".
Research
Rebel Diaz is a rapper duo from New York. While developing a concept for this band poster, I knew I wanted to include a political theme since much of Rebel Diaz's music is politically charged. Looking back at Russian Constructivist style posters, I knew I wanted to use bold, thick typography and simple geometric shapes consisting of a red, black, and white color palette. I thought a Russian Constructivist style poster would be perfect for this band since the Russian Constructivist graphic design style was a political art style at the time.
Development
My concept for the band poster is a Molotov cocktail where the alcohol and the cloth turns into a silhouette of the United States of America on fire with flames in the background. In my first rough draft of the band poster, the United States of America was too hard to recognize and the liquid/cloth from the Molotov cocktail was too curvilinear in comparison to the rest of the poster, which is mostly geometric.
Final Execution
For the final draft, I made the state borders more clear by showing them in white, and organized everything to be more geometric.
