Class assignment - Advanced Digital Illustration - I created a cover illustration for a realistic fiction Western novel concept, The Teeth of the Wolf. The story follows three Texas Rangers before the Mexican War. They chase after fugitives and encounter Comanche warriors and Mexican Soldiers on the border.
This concept brings to mind blood, death, and the Texas-Mexico border. Some of my concepts feature portraiture of Texas Rangers, human skulls, and Texas landscapes. I have sketched a variety of concepts featuring different subject matter. Based on what I know about the book, I have depicted the three Texas Rangers as having personalities that reflect the content of the story. These are wily and rough men who crave action and carry themselves above the law. The style will feature earthy colors with a bold splash of black, white, and red accents, bold fonts in caps, and symbolism to convey feelings of excitement, dread, and intrigue. My style will be like movie posters and graphic novels, directly inspired by Westworld, Mad Max, and Dexter.
