B/VELLESA
FINAL DEGREE PROJECT OF DESIGN

Today’s society unconsciously associates beauty with perfection, novelty, and purity. So that old age becomes inevitably associated with imperfection, which evokes us to hyper-consumerism and the constant search for novelty, continually rejecting everything where time has left its mark.

The project begins by investigating the scar and its aesthetic disposition in the West, comparing it with other societies to understand how social constructs are formed and extract possible ways of approaching one element. Understanding the scar and how it manifests itself in clothing, the project uses current tools, such as artificial intelligence, without losing its own craft process.

Through various techniques of material experimentation, B/Vellesa tries to beautify the aged, the problem of worn leatherette and resilience; while addressing a complicated issue such as health, not only physical but also mental. The project values its craft process, knowing and respecting the materials used and their limitations, as well as it is a process of personal introspection.

We often become obsessed with perfection and with an ideal that only lives in the mind of its creator, and in the process we lose other results that we obtain thanks to errors, sometimes more powerful and with more possibilities than the expected results. Sometimes you have to embrace chaos, let yourself go and lose control to recover it, otherwise, the value of handmade pieces would not be greater than that of mass-produced pieces. It is the imperfect human who makes the pieces unique and unrepeatable.
