Hello, Pleased to meet you. If you haven't met me yet, my name is Mary Kepley and this is one of my first of many projects on my graphic design journey. This assignment was to represent the semiotic modes of visual communication.

The first panel is of a signature that I created using ink and paintbrush. This represents the "symbol". There are also 3 defining characteristics about myself and platforms that you can find me on. More details about my process and various parts of design may be found on my drop mark here.

The second panel is comprised of 2 objects that I hold near and dear, the "Index". A plant leaf because to say that I'm a plant nerd is an understatement. I have a collection of over 200 species ranging from cactus to bonsai. Plants are my passion. The hat is another object that I have a near obsession with. We have a bedroom in our house that has them hanging all over the walls. You will rarely see me without a hat on my head. Truckers, ball caps, felts, beanies, I love them all. Best accessory to an outfit in my opinion.

On the inside panel, you will find 2 portraits of myself, the "Icon". The first one I chose was of my wedding day, gazing out the window waiting to see my beautiful wife for the first time. I chose the peachy orange color because it reminded me of a terra cotta pot. The second is of a photograph that my wife took of me while were on a birthday trip in Westin. I chose a shade of green because I liked the contrast and it goes along with the theme of a plant in a pot.
