Oxford University Press: Book Design
The Oxford University Press project, required the design of three books to form a mini-series within their ‘A Very Short Introduction’ series along with marketing material. With over 700 titles, I chose the topic of religion; Islam, Christianity and Judaism as I believe it is important to design for something you feel passionate about. Visiting the University Press and regularly meeting with client meant receiving continuous feedback on the design.
I selected ‘roofs’ as a way of illustrating the concepts to ensure all religions are looked at the same and to reduce any stereotypes or negative connotations. I enjoyed the idea or a reflected image to create the illusion of a three-dimensional building and to highlight the beginning and end of a book. The san serif typeface complimented the simplicity and the centre alignment balanced it out. The stars were created using gold foil to provide a more interactive finish and the flaps contained relevant information of each title. The symbol was also on the spine for easy recognition when placed on a shelf and the stars were irregularly scattered across each to differentiate between them.

As promotional material, I created bookmarks, with the same design of each title as well as the series on the back with the stars also foiled to match.
