Crystal Dimitrescu
This project is the second of three projects I made inspired by the popular video game Resident Evil: Village which features Crystal Dimitrescu, the collectible item earned after the main player kills the infamous Lady Dimitrescu, or by the term the internet knows her by, "Tall Vampire Lady," in her dragon form. I would probably consider this design my most intricate project to date and took the longest time to draw digitally.
This project was drawn digitally from December 18th, 2021 - January 21st, 2022, and created between January 30th, 2022 - March 13th, 2022.
Because of the number of small details in this project, a digital design was created on my iPad. I purchased an Apple pencil to be able to easily draw the desired design on my iPad because of how incredibly detailed it is. Although it's still possible to draw without it and expensive tools are not required to create beautiful designs, this new pencil made it much easier to draw this design.
The project was divided into two sections: the primary black lines and secondary gray cross-hatching (shown in blue in the photo on the right.)
Using my favorite printable stabilizer paper, I printed an outline onto the stabilizer and attached it to my fabric. The shading was done first to give it the illusion that it sat behind the black thread. Once a section of the gray thread was completed, I followed the same section with the primary black thread.
The most experimental aspect of this project was the gem affixed in the middle, similar to the gem fixed to her chest in the in-game item. No gem I found looked precisely as I preferred, so I took a gem from a piece of jewelry and filed down the sides to give it a rectangular shape. A layer of clear nail polish was then painted around the sides to remove the matte finish. The fabric behind the gem was carefully cut and removed so I could glue the edges of the fabric to the back of the gem. Two threads of blue satin floss were stitched around the gem to make it more secure.
