James Walden's profile

Hiking the Konza Prairie Trails

Based in Lawrence, Kansas, James “Jim” Walden is a seasoned financial professional whose experience spans the areas of asset management, investment research, and portfolio risk management. He serves as partner and chief investment officer of Clayton Wealth Partners, which has offices in Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas. Outside the financial realm, James Walden enjoys exploring the Konza Prairie.

Konza Prairie's hiking trails are a combination of three public-accessible trails - Nature Trail, Kings Creek Loop, and Godwin Hill Loop - that are open every day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., barring days when burning activities are taking place or when the bridge that leads to the destination is out. Konza Prairie's hiking trails traverse parts of the Konza Prairie Biological Station, an 8,600-acre native tallgrass prairie research and conservation area located in northeastern Kansas.

The three trails have narrow pathways, occasional steep climbs, and all begin at the Kiosk at the entrance to the Konza Prairie trail system. The Nature Trail and King Creek Loop are 2.6 miles and 4.6 miles long, respectively. Godwin Hill Loop, the longest of the trails, spans 6.2 miles. Dogs, horses, and bikes are not allowed on the trails.
