Die Schachtel Imaginary Landscapes CD Series - 1

The Zeit Composer series is a collection of CDs published by the avant garde label Die Schachtel, and dedicated to the new Italian electronic, contemporary and experimental music composers. The series started a few years ago, and part of it it has been featured on different design annuals as well as on the great website Hardformat (www.hardformat.org), in the Designers' section. You can also see some more Die Schachtel stuff there.

The recent publication of two CDs prompted the idea of showing the series in its entirety for the very first time. All the three-panel digipak are printed in a rigorous 2-colour black and matt silver, and are only part of a larger series of design which will one day be available as fine art prints and posters. There is no 3D software or digital trick involved here: it all starts from hand drawing sketches (you can see an example at the bottom of the page along with a shot of the actual CDS) which are then carefully redrawn with Adobe Illustrator, using the software as the old black rapidograph ink on paper.
